The McLaren MP4-17 was the F1 car driven by David Coulthard and Kimi Räikkönen during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. The chassis was designed by Adrian Newey, Mike Coughlan, Neil Oatley and Peter Prodromou, with Mario Illien designing the bespoke Ilmor engine.

The McLaren-Mercedes MP4/17 steering wheel was one of the most advanced pieces of technology on the car. It featured buttons for controlling fuel mixture, engine mapping, pit lane speed limit and more.

The McLaren MP4-17 was a successful car, winning 9 races over the course of the 2002 and 2003 seasons. David Coulthard took 7 wins in the car, including a dominant victory at the 2002 Monaco Grand Prix. Kimi Räikkönen also took 2 wins in the MP4-17, including an emotional victory at his home race in Finland.

Despite its success, the McLaren MP4-17 was overshadowed by its successor, the McLaren MP4-18. The MP4-18 was designed to be even more competitive than the MP4-17, but it never raced due to a number of issues. As a result, the McLaren MP4-17 remains one of the most successful cars in McLaren's history.
