Spring is genuinely the best time to be a car person in San Diego. The weather is cooperative, the roads are in good shape after the winter rains, and the event calendar is stacked from April through June. Here's everything worth putting on your calendar.
April
Cruisin' Grand — Opening Night *April 4, 2026 | Grand Avenue, Escondido | 4pm–8pm | Free*
Cruisin' Grand runs every Friday night from April through September, but the opening night is something special. The turnout for week one routinely exceeds anything you'll see later in the season as every local car owner comes out for the first show of the year. Grand Avenue gets shut down from Broadway to Kalmia and the cars line up bumper to bumper from 4pm on.
What makes Cruisin' Grand special is its democracy — you'll see a 1955 Bel Air next to a 1985 Monte Carlo next to a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and they're all welcome. It's not a concours. It's a community. After twenty-plus years of attending, I still look forward to opening night.
Cars & Coffee at Miramar *April 12, 2026 | Miramar Rd, San Diego | 7am–10am | Free*
The Miramar Cars & Coffee has evolved into one of the better informal gatherings in the county. It skews toward modern exotics and European sports cars, but there's usually a solid contingent of American iron and the occasional JDM rarity. Get there by 7:15 if you want to park with the good cars.
Spring Classic at Del Mar Fairgrounds *April 19–20, 2026 | Del Mar Fairgrounds | 9am–4pm | $20*
This is a proper judged show with separate categories for American, European, and foreign entries. The quality of the field has improved noticeably over the past few years as the organizers have gotten stricter about what makes the cut. If you're considering entering a car, the European Classic category tends to have the most interesting field and the most knowledgeable judges.
May
Qualcomm Collector Car Auction Preview *May 3, 2026 | Various (see organizer site) | Free to attend*
Not strictly a car show, but every serious collector in San Diego attends the preview days for the major spring auction. Walk the tent, look at everything, and pay attention to what the auction house's team is excited about — they know what's going to perform. I always take notes on the cars in the middle tiers of the auction (not the top lots, not the no-reserves) because that's where you learn the most about current market sentiment.
Lemons Rally — SoCal Edition *May 9–11, 2026 | Various (starts in San Diego) | Participants only*
If you have a running, driveable car worth under $500 (by the 24 Hours of Lemons ruleset), you should enter this. The SoCal Lemons Rally is three days of chaotic, joyful driving through some of the best back roads in Southern California. I've done it three times in increasingly terrible cars and it is genuinely one of the best experiences in automotive enthusiasm.
Carlsbad Cars & Coffee *May 17, 2026 | The Forum, Carlsbad | 8am–11am | Free*
The Carlsbad C&C is smaller than Miramar but the quality-to-quantity ratio is often better. North County's car culture tends to run toward European classics and collector-quality American muscle, and the Carlsbad show reflects that. Worth the drive if you're coming from South County.
June
La Jolla Concours d'Elegance *June 14–15, 2026 | Scripps Park, La Jolla | 10am–4pm | $35*
This is the flagship event of the San Diego collector car calendar. The setting — Scripps Park overlooking the Pacific — is genuinely spectacular, and the field in recent years has been competitive with much larger shows. The featured class in 2026 is postwar Italian, which means you should expect a row of Ferrari GTEs and Alfa Romeo Giuliettas that will ruin you for everything else you see all year.
The Saturday evening charity gala is worth attending if you can get tickets — the cars that don't make the Sunday show are often more interesting than the ones that do.
Balboa Park Automotive Heritage Day *June 28, 2026 | Balboa Park, San Diego | 10am–3pm | Free*
A newer event that has found its footing. The Balboa Park setting is beautiful and the organizers have developed a good eye for what makes an interesting show — they focus on cars with stories rather than cars with concours finishes. Entry is free for spectators and the food situation has improved considerably from the early years.

If you're exhibiting at any of these events and want your car listed on Fully Sorted, send me a note. I'm building a local events section and would love to feature interesting cars and their owners.
See you at Cruisin' Grand.
